Playfish (Beijing) - Online Community Manager

As the Online Content Manager at Playfish China you will be responsible for our communication and support of our user community. You will work with the game teams to communicate new features and events to our millions of players, engage with the community and channel their feedback to our game teams, and work closely with our marketing team to plan and coordinate campaigns for our hit titles.

Playfish (Beijing) - System Operations Engineer
Location: Beijing, China

As a System Engineer at Playfish, you will be part of 24x7 System Operations team, which is responsible for deploying and managing Playfish games and platform services hosted in Amazon’s Cloud infrastructure.
Around 50 million people play Playfish’s 11 games (and growing!) each month.  More than 250 million Playfish games have been installed and played worldwide.

* Working with Platform and Game Developers to deliver new games and features.

As a Level Designer, you will be able to communicate in depth knowledge of game design from both a creative and technical standpoint. You will work with various design teams around the world helping define prototype levels and environments, which will lay out the key game play elements ensuring that it reflects the vision of the game.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, build, script, and tune levels for building white box.
  • Implement the level designs for the game using Maya/Max and In-house Level Editor
  • Work in close collaboration with external game studios and in house art team, tech art and animation to create a highly productive and focused level development process

The Project Manager (PM), also called Development Director (DD) at EA, is a critical role and responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of a game, on time and within budget. Prior to production they carry out a detailed analysis of the game design and work out the project ‘milestones’ (specific targets that have to be met by certain dates), agreeing upon these with the key technical and creative managers, such as the Game Designer, Art Director and Lead Programmer. The PM/DD then works out a schedule for the project and decides the personnel and equipment needed.

Once development is underway, the DD monitors the team’s progress against the schedule. They must be able to prioritize when production deadlines are a concern, manage risks, and plan for contingencies. Finally, the PM / DD is responsible for all people management on the team and is tasked with motivating and developing all staff under their management including career development.

The Technical Artist must be able to work under the Technical Art Director and interpret and execute technical requirements with minimal supervision. The candidate must be well versed in application and shell scripting, as well as help guide junior artists and enforce technical art guidelines, such as polygon counts, memory budgets, etc.

Responsibility:
-  Maintenance of Game Builds and Asset Pipelines

Brief Description:
An entry level of position for those who have desires to step into online gaming development world and start a career as software engineer in this booming industry.
An ideal candidate will be a guy who has ability to pay attention to great details and ability to follow through a problem or task from start to end; his/her work will include but not limited to configurations/unit testing/debugging/maintenance for several recurring projects; coding in Java is expected.
Main Responsibilities:
- Own recurring configuration projects for complicated, heavy loaded, distributed online gaming sites; work from start to finish including defining requirements, design, coding, testing/debugging, tools making, release and maintenance
- Follow and improve existing processes for recurring projects and take initiatives to resolve all issues during the projects life cycle
- Collaborate with other engineers, producers, artists, QAs and dev managers to provide in time and quality technical feedback in the whole software development period
- Finish other development tasks assigned by engineering manager effectively, in time and on quality.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this job, the candidate MUST have:
- At least 1 year of professional experience in hands-on software engineering including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing and maintenance for enterprise web applications in Java.
- Self-motivated, overcomes obstacles independently, strong work ethic, hits deadlines without supervision; excellent time management, ability to assess risks/priorities and act accordingly, predicts/notices issues early
- Picks up new, complicated, abstract concepts quickly and feel challenges as development chance and feel comfortable to work on multiple tasks at the same time
- Working experience with database interaction, web applications and good understanding on client/server architecture
- Good understanding of computer science fundamentals and object oriented design principles
- Good written communication skills in both English and Chinese
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (or an equivalent degree)
- Flexible work schedule since communication with international teams is required

VGS(Shanghai) : Associate Art Director

Location: Shanghai
VGS is seeking an exceptionally creative, highly motivated individual, with excellent communication skills to take on the role of Associate Art Director for one of our projects. AADs at VGS are responsible for working with the ADs at other studios to ensure a consistent vision and level of quality for the entire game. They must be able to understand and communicate the core vision of the game to the art team in Shanghai, despite language and cultural barriers, and be able to independently guide the team to create AAA quality artwork.
Required art direction skills

  1. Experience providing art direction for AAA titles – must have a solid understanding of art and development practices, and have provided art leadership for shipped games.
  2. Proven ability to direct and critique an art team, ensuring their work is at a high level of quality and matches the game style and vision. Must be able to run daily reviews and provide effective feedback to artists.
  3. Excellent visual language and storytelling skills. Must be able to use them to create tone, atmosphere and ambiance, as well as “sell” events in a scene.
  4. Good functional world knowledge and observations skills – able to help the teams create plausible, believable environments for (mostly) modern and futuristic settings.
  5. Expert knowledge of at least one art creation area – Characters, environments, animation, VFX, concept, etc. – and familiarity with all others.
  6. Able to confidently discuss any art topics in English.

Additional preferred skills

  1. Familiarity with action games – fixed camera, FPS or TPS.
  2. Ability to help develop the VGS artist community, sharing skills, knowledge and experience.
  3. Experience working with Chinese artists - Mandarin language skills a plus.

Required general skills

  1. 5+ years games industry experience (or similar entertainment industry work)
  2. Wide-ranging knowledge of the games industry, genres, and markets.
  3. Extensive experience with 3D art, authoring packages and best practices.
  4. Solid communication and problem solving abilities. Confident creating workflows and processes to guide and organize art teams. Ability to effectively direct and delegate to leads.
  5. Experience in effectively engaging external partners, and understanding the core vision of a game. Must be able to actively drive conversations to ensure that vision is communicated.
